Reading winger Garath McCleary hasn’t ruled out a move to Oxford, as reported by Get Reading.

The 32-year-old was reportedly close to joining the U’s last summer having been left out of the squad by former Royals boss, Jose Gomes. However, talks broke down and the former Jamaica international decided to remain with the Championship side.

Now, the Oxford-born winger is one of a number of Reading players out of contract this summer, and he is open to a move to the League One side.

When asked in an Instagram Q&A how close he came to joining the U’s last summer, he replied: “We had a conversation and I watched a couple (of) games but I still feel I have something to offer in the Championship. We will see though.”

McCleary began his career with Oxford City, before spending time in non-league with Slough Town and Bromley. The winger then joined Nottingham Forest, before joining the Royals in 2012.

Having surpassed 250 appearances for the Championship side, McCleary says he has “no idea” if he will be at the club when his contract expires this summer.
