Gillingham are leading the race to sign centre back Sean Raggett, but both Oxford United and Portsmouth have shown interest in the defender, according to reports.

The 26-year-old was released by Norwich City this week and Gills boss Steve Evans is looking to bring the defender in at his hometown club.

But, both Oxford and Pompey are interested. Raggett, who had made 26 appearances for Portsmouth while on loan this season, helped the south coast club to the League One play-off semi-final, where they were defeated by Karl Robinson’s U’s.

And with the departure of 24-year-old Rob Dickie looking likely, Raggett would be a great addition for an Oxford side that missed out on promotion with defeat to Wycombe in the playoff final.

Raggett made well over 100 appearances for Dover Athletic in the lower leagues before joining Lincoln City. He scored eight goals from 52 appearances as the Imps won the National League, before joining the Canaries.

During his time with Norwich, he made just two appearances but spent loans away at Lincoln, Rotherham United and Portsmouth.
