Robinson Hopeful Striker Addition is Imminent

Karl Robinson is hopeful of adding a striker to his squad before Saturday’s home game against Peterborough United.

Last week the U’s boss claimed his attacking options lacked pace and was looking to bring another two new forwards to the club, with one likely to arrive before the clubs encounter with the Posh.

Despite Oxford deserving their 1-1 draw at Sunderland on the opening day of the season, the U’s squandered a few goalscoring opportunities. New signing Tariqe Fosu was composed to net on his debut, assisted brilliantly by Ben Woodburn, on loan from Liverpool.

But Fosu and Woodburn both wasted goalscoring possibilities, as did Cameron Brannagan. The lone striker was the U’s only natural forward, Jamie Mackie, and although he didn’t score, he did put himself in good positions and was a nuisance for the Black Cats’ defence.

Speaking on Saturday, Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “We’re probably four or five days away, but we might have a striker lined up. I was told by Tiger (U’s owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth) that the agent said it could probably happen this week.”

The U’s boast some strong attacking options, and boast one of the strongest midfield in League One, but are lacking with natural strikers.

Every club wants to find that 15-20 goal per season striker, and although Robinson’s squad are capable of finding the net, they need to sign another one or two strikers before the deadline.
