Robinson Not Holding Back After Latest U’s Defeat

|

Karl Robinson was frustrated as Oxford United’s latest defeat left his side without a win in five league games.

The U’s boss blamed simple mistakes and poor decisions for their 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood Town.

Both of the Cod Army’s goals came from poor defending, with the initial opportunity not cleared correctly, allowing Paddy Madden and Peter Clarke to score.

Elliott Moore scored his first U’s goal to send the sides into the break on level terms, in what was a relatively even first-half.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “It was a very strange game. I don’t think we played particularly well. I think we looked quite strong and disciplined out of possession.

“It’s been that sort of performance you’ve not seen from us this year where we’ve not been fluent or in possession a great deal.

“We felt we denied them opportunities and their two goals have come from players just switching off in the box.

“We didn’t create a great deal, I can’t say we deserved to win. I think a draw would have been about the right result.

“The players know where things lie and the generic basics of a set-piece where you switch off from a second phase is inexcusable. We spend hours trying to get it right and we’re disappointed.”

Robinson’s side are now 20th in League One with just one win this season after a home victory over Peterborough United in the second week.

And despite progressing to the third round of the Carabao Cup following wins over Peterborough and Millwall, four defeats in five in the league has raised concerns amongst the U’s supporters.
