Robinson To Hold Contract Talks With U’s Midfielder

|

Oxford United boss, Karl Robinson, is hoping to hold contract talks later this month with midfielder, James Henry.

The 30-year-old, who’s contract expires in the summer, has been an integral part of the U’s squad since his arrival in 2017.

Henry was a joint top goal scorer in his first season and was top scorer last time out in Robinson’s first full campaign.

And he’s off to a flyer this season, having scored five goals in all competitions, including braces in wins over Tranmere and Gillingham.

Henry will make his 100th appearance for the U’s this weekend when Robinson’s side travel to Accrington Stanley, and he has netted 32 times.

Robinson has said that preliminary discussions took place before the start of the season, and the pair would sit down in autumn to reevaluate.

The head coach told the Oxford Mail: “I think it’s important we sit down with Jamo.

“He’s someone I want at the club, I know he wants to be here and his family want him here. Conversations will start.

“We spoke in the summer about a contract and said can we put it off until the end of October and have a conversation then?

“He’s done himself the world of good since then.”

It’s uncertain what type of contract Oxford would offer Henry. Despite now being the wrong side of 30, he is still a regular player for the team, but it’s unlikely he would be offered a long term deal.
