Oxford United Football Club this week announced that Thai businessman Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth has become the majority shareholder and chairman of the club.

The current chairman Darryl Eales retains a shareholding and significant investment in the club and will remain on the Board.

Thanakarnjanasuth, also known as ‘Tiger’, held a 25% stake in Reading until May 2017 as part of a three-person consortium.

The trio sold their 75% stake in the football club to Chinese brother and sister Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li. However they retained ownership of land around the Madejski Stadium and its hotel, which have been earmarked for future development.

One of Thanakarnjanasuth’s businesses is in garments manufacturing, exporter to global brands including Adidas, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, while his other business falls within real estate.
