Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan will not be leaving the club on the cheap, insists manager Karl Robinson.
The U’s rejected a bid from Millwall during the January transfer window which was reported to be around £500,000. That offer was well under the clubs valuation for Brannagan.
Robinson values the 24-year-old highly but admitted that the club does have a buyout clause in the midfielder’s contract.
Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Robinson said: “There’s a buyout clause in Cameron’s contract in the summer that’s significantly higher than that.
“That was part of getting him to do a deal last summer.
“We’re very well-protected by the length of Cameron’s contract and the buyout clause.”
The midfielder would have been out of contract in June but signed a two-year extension last summer, keeping him at Grenoble Road until 2023.
The 24-year-old has attracted plenty of interest since his arrival from Liverpool in January 2018, with Leeds United and Burnley having previously kept a close eye on the midfielder.
As a result, Brannagan, who scored seven goals last season as the U’s reached the League One play-off final, committed his future to the club.
