“They’ve rejected it” – U’s to Miss Out on Cadden

Oxford United have received the disappointing news that their bid for Chris Cadden has been rejected by Columbus Crew.

The U’s head coach Karl Robinson revealed on Thursday that the club had submitted a “big bid” for the right-back but admitted there was “no bargaining”.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “They’ve rejected it, so that’s the end of it. We’ve half-known that to an extent. Let me tell you, the bid was very high as well.

“To be fair to Tiger (U’s chairman Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth), he didn’t want to haggle. We had an amount of money, which would break my record transfer – for a right-back in League One.

“That’s the board doing everything they can. We’ll have to wait and see. They (Columbus) might change their mind, you just don’t know.”

Cadden joined the club in the summer on a season-long loan after Columbus Crew signed the 23-year-old from Motherwell.

But it is expected that the MLS side will recall the full-back in January ahead of their new season.

It will be a bitter blow for Oxford as the Scottish international has been a key part of this seasons success.

He also played a part in today’s game as the U’s extended their unbeaten run to 16 games following their FA Cup win at Walsall.
