Two Trialists Feature as Under 23’s Lose to Wimbledon

|

Two trialists featured in this afternoons Under 23 match against AFC Wimbledon, in which Oxford United lost 4-1.

Former Reading, Galatasary and Bolton Wanderers midfielder, Jem Karacan, was one of the trialists, and 18-year-old Malik Dijksteel was also involved.

Karacan was offered a contract with Oxford last summer, but the 30-year-old turned down the offer, joining Millwall instead.

After his release from the Lions, former Turkey Under 21 midfielder joined Australian side, Central Coast Mariners.

But the man who spent eight years at Reading is now available for free, something U’s boss Karl Robinson is keen to take up following injuries to Ben Woodburn, George Thorne and Jamie Hanson.

Dijksteel is the younger brother to former Charlton Athletic man Anfernee, who played under Robinson at the Valley.

The 18-year-old defender, who can also feature in midfield, played 75 minutes as the U’s lost to the Dons.

It’s unclear what Dijksteel can bring to the table, but Karacan could become a key asset to an already established midfield.
