Oxford United boss, Karl Robinson, has confirmed that he is interested in signing controversial Sheffield United striker, Ched Evans on loan.
A striker is certainly needed to boost the U’s squad, and the 30-year-old could be an ideal candidate after netting 18 goals whilst on loan at Fleetwood Town last season.
Following the Blades promotion to the Premier League, it’s likely the former Welsh international will be available again for a loan move.
But the U’s are wary even if they could bring in Evans, it may divide opinion. The Welshman spent two and a half years in prison after being convicted for rape, but he was found not guilty at a retrial in 2016.
Robinson has met with supporters in the last few days to gauge the mood over a potential move for the striker, which the head coach says has been largely positive.
Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “He’s a player I like. I don’t think there are many better strikers in League One.
“As a club we take tremendous responsibility for people’s actions, but equally everybody in life deserves an opportunity and a chance.
“He’s been proven by the law of the land that he was wrongly imprisoned.
“We’ve spoken to different people of different ages and genders. The consensus (from fans) has been a positive one.”

Every fan is entitled to an opinion. This has divided U’s supporters, but 75% of fans believe that, despite his past, he would be an excellent addition to the squad.
The U’s are lacking a ’15 goal per season’ striker, and following his time at Fleetwood, it would be likely Evans would repeat that in the yellow and blue.
