U’s Chase Kilmarnock Defender

Oxford United have been linked with Kilmarnock defender, Stuart Findlay, according to Gareth Law at Sun Sport.

The 23-year-old, who can play anywhere in the back line, is under contract until 2021 with the SPL side.

It is believed that U’s boss, Karl Robinson, has sanctioned a move for the defender, and the two clubs are thought to be edging closer to a deal.

But he could now be prised away with a figure of around £500,000 being mooted.

Findlay began his career at Celtic, but failed to make an appearance for the Scottish champions.

During his time at Celtic Park, he spent loan spells with Greenock Morton, Dumbarton and Kilmarnock, before signing for Newcastle United in 2016 following his release from Celtic.

But time at St James Park was also limited, and he was loaned back to Killie before signing permanently for the club in 2018.

He was an integral part of Steve Clarke’s side that finished third last season, during which he was called up to Alex McLeish’s Scotland side, but is yet to make an appearance.

But the 23-year-old has represented at Scotland at every level of the youth divisions.

Findlay could be a great addition to the squad. Not only could he cover at right back, an area the U’s are short, but following the departure of Curtis Nelson to Cardiff City, the 23-year-old could be a solid replacement in the middle.
