U’s Duo Edge Closer to Championship Move

|

Oxford United duo Shandon Baptiste and Tariqe Fosu are due in West London ahead of their medicals at Championship side Brentford, according to reports by Football Insider.

The Oxford youngsters are subject to a £3 million bid by the promotion hopefuls, with their respected moves completed later today.

Fosu has netted ten goals for the U’s this season, while academy graduate Baptiste has scored four and provided four assists as the U’s look to achieve promotion from League One.

Baptiste has been labelled as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in League One, while Fosu has blossomed since being reunited with Karl Robinson, who managed the 24-year-old while at Charlton.

It’s a big blow for Robinson and the U’s to lose two key players, but the club should be suitably prepared. Wingers Nathan Holland and Marcus Browne joined earlier in the window, while the club have added Liam Kelly and George Thorne to the central midfield positions from Feyenoord and Derby County respectively.

Robinson is also due to welcome back key players in the shape of James Henry and Ben Woodburn, with Mark Sykes also coming of age this season.

However, the main talking point among Oxford fans is the fee, with the majority believing that Baptiste is worth that fee alone. Of the deal does go through in time, supporters will be hoping that some of that money can immediately be reinvested in the squad.
