U’s Lose Important Figures Due To International Call-ups

|

Oxford United will be without 19-year-old attacking midfielder, Ben Woodburn, for next weeks visit of Doncaster Rovers.

The on-loan Liverpool man has been called up for Wales Under 21 squad as they face Moldova in a UEFA U21 Euro 2021 qualifier next Friday.

But Woodburn, who was called up to the senior squad last month, failed to make an appearance for Ryan Giggs’ side and missed crucial League One fixtures during his absence.

Shandon Baptiste, who earned a call up for Grenada, will also miss the match, but neither Mark Sykes or Chris Cadden have been called up to the Northern and Ireland and Scotland squads respectively.

As a result, the U’s won’t be able to postpone their fixture if they felt necessary as they don’t have three or more players away on international duty.

Losing Woodburn is certainly a blow to Robinson’s squad, and the addition of Baptiste being called away will hurt the U’s boss.

That said, despite injuries to George Thorne and Jamie Hanson, the midfield is an area the U’s have plenty of talent and the likes of Sykes will be able to cover and do a job.
