Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2023.
Earlier this week, U’s boss Karl Robinson revealed that he was hopeful Brannagan would commit his future to the club but wasn’t worried about when he would do so.
But now, the 24-year-old has committed his future and will stay with the club for the foreseeable future, having had just one year left on his current deal.
It also ends any potential speculation about him leaving the club, with Leeds United and Burnley among those to have shown interest in the midfielder.
Brannagan, who has made 104 appearances since joining from Liverpool in January 2018, told the Oxford Mail: “I’m absolutely made up. It’s a big thing for me and my family, Oxford stood there and helped me out when I really needed a platform to get first-team football and get my name out there.
“They were the club to step in and really push me and help me as much as they could.
“Last season we played some great stuff and it was very unfortunate not to go all the way, but that’s life and we move on.
“Signing the contract is massive, I love it here, love living here and I’m just looking forward to get going again.”
When interviewed for the clubs’ official website, Brannagan added: “I’m more than happy to be here. All I want is to win promotion and be successful with this club.
“The club is set up for that and I have loved my time here so far. I owe the club a lot because they took a chance on me as a young player and I want to repay that.
“I think the fans have seen what we are about – there are record sales for season tickets and that’s amazing. I can’t wait for the day when we play in front of another full house at the Kassam or those away games where the fans are roaring us on behind the goal.”
