After the U’s 1-1 draw at Woking on Saturday, Robinson admitted this was to be an important week when it comes to recruitment, but following a 3-0 defeat at Eastleigh and the news in Findlay, it’s not been positive news.

The boss has already missed out on midfielder Jorge Grant, who joined Lincoln City, whilst Jerome Sinclair and Luke Garbutt also headed elsewhere.

Replacing Curtis Nelson is certainly a priority, and in addition to a bid to a new defender, Robinson added that approaches have been made to sign a winger on a permanent deal and a striker on loan.

We’re not yet sure who the defender is, but the striker could be Sheffield United forward, Ched Evans.

And it looks likely the U’s will land Motherwell winger, Chris Cadden, also believed to be on loan.

Trialists Elliott Frear and Jon Guthrie have both been told they won’t be offered a deal at present, despite both impressing the manager in pre-season.

When asked about the concern from fans about the lack of summer activity, Robinson said: “I’m not going to get too wrapped up in the here and now, because the long-term objective is to get these players over the line.

“If that means I have to be patient and wait, I’m willing to do that. I don’t want to, but if that’s the case and they’re the players we want…”

Elsewhere, the club could be in line for a six-figure injection after Callum O’Dowda was linked with a move to Fulham. The £1.6million move which took the winger from United to Bristol City in 2016 included a sell-on clause which is believed to be ten per cent of the profit.
