U’s off to a flier

OXFORD United opened their Conference campaign with a win thanks to a wonder goal by Andy Burgess.

The U’s took the lead in the 16th minute through a penalty after Rob Duffy was poll-axed by the Halifax keeper. Duffy dusted himself down and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Halifax rarely troubled the United defence and failed to produce a shot of note all game. Oxford sealed their win in the 70th minute after Burgess struck a magnificent shot from 30 yards out into the top corner. It was a truly wonderful goal and was just rewards for Burgess who has been impressive throughout pre-season.

Jim Smith’s side now travel to Dagenham and Redbridge tomorrow full of confidence and in search of their first away win in the Conference for 44 years.
