U’s Pair Facing Different Futures

|

Oxford United duo, Malachi Napa and Tony McMahon, face different futures at the club, David Pritchard at the Oxford Mail reports.

20-year-old winger Napa was likely to be loaned out again after he spent time at Macclesfield Town last term, but given the lack of depth in the U’s squad, Robinson may decide to keep hold of him.

In training, and in glimpses at the 5-0 defeat at Rangers, Napa showed his capabilities.

Robinson said: “There’s a lot more to come from Malachi. He impressed me this time last year and then fell away, so he needs to keep himself at that same level. I want to keep hold of him for a bit longer and make a decision further down the line.”

Meanwhile, 33-year-old right back McMahon looks likely to leave the club, despite having 12 months left on his contract.

The U’s boss made it clear in May that the full back’s intention to move back north to his family. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Scunthorpe United, and despite him not training with the squad, no side has come in for the defender.

Robinson added: “He’s available. I’d imagine he’s got that much experience that he’ll be training. It’s not like he’ll be doing nothing.

Napa looks a decent prospect, and although he may benefit his career by spending more time on loan, he could be a useful addition to the squad.

The same could be said with McMahon. The U’s lack experience in the squad, and other than Sam Long, are short on right back’s. But, Robinson knows another is required and should be able to find a stronger replacement.
