U’s Skipper Sidelined for up to Two Months

|

Oxford United captain John Mousinho has been ruled out for up to two months after the defender picked up a knee injury during the defeat against Sunderland.

U’s boss Karl Robinson revealed that there was a regular player that had been ruled out of last nights match against AFC Wimbledon but didn’t name the man in question.

Now the 33-year-old has had a significant scan, a timescale has been given, with the hopeful return around one months time but it could be longer.

Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “John Mousinho twisted his knee on Saturday.

“The scan wasn’t what we thought, which is great news. We thought it was going to be a lot worse than it actually is.

“It’s still going to be four weeks, minimum, but it could be eight. The reason for the difference is there’s so much inflammation that we’ve got to wait for it to settle down.

“He did it with 15 minutes to go, it’s amazing he stayed on.”

There are a couple of concerns with the Skipper sidelined. The defender has made 29 starts from 33 appearances this term, and while Elliott Moore is a capable replacement, defensive partner Rob Dickie is one yellow card away from a two-game suspension.

Sam Long, who has sat the last two games out, could be an option in the middle, as could Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, but the hope would be that Dickie stays clear of another booking.
