U’s ‘Tracking’ St Patrick’s Athletic Winger

Oxford United are tracking St Patrick’s Athletic winger Darragh Burns, but face competition from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, according to the Independent.ie reporter Daniel McDonnell.

The report suggests that 19-year-old has been invited to Hibs’ League Cup final tie against Celtic on Sunday.

Despite interest from Scotland, the U’s have emerged as a potential suitor along with a number of other League One clubs but is still under contract with the League of Ireland Premier Division outfit.

The 2021 Young Player of the Year starred for St. Pat’s in his first full season as a senior pro and played a part in their FAI Cup success. He netted seven times from 29 appearances in all competitions as they finished second in the top-flight behind Shamrock Rovers.

The winger has also turned out six times for the club with former St. Pat’s defender Luke McNally, who made the switch to Oxford in January 2020.

If the winger does sign, he will be the fourth player to join the U’s from Ireland after McNally, Mark Sykes and Gavin Whyte in recent seasons.
