Oxford United have made their first signing of the January transfer window after Nathan Holland joined the U’s on loan from West Ham United.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form in the Premier League 2, leading the assist charts with seven and scoring twelve goals from just thirteen games.

The youngster has also provided two assists from two games for West Ham in Football League Trophy matches.

Holland also started for the Hammers when Oxford knocked the Premier League side out of the Carabao Cup but was substituted before the U’s ran out 4-0 winners. He also made the bench as West Ham knocked Gillingham out of the FA Cup.

And it was that game where the winger, who prefers the left side but can play on the right, saw how impressive this Oxford side is.

Holland told the Oxford Mail: “All the players who took part in that game were very impressed with the way Oxford played in that game and the confidence they showed to play out from the back.

“That had a brilliant effect on me and maybe that’s a big reason why I’m back.

“Not all League One teams have the best of styles and I had to choose one which suited me. Oxford definitely have that.

“The gaffer has been so positive and showed a lot of encouragement to bring me here.

“I know he likes young players and he’s given me a lot of confidence and praise.

“I have to repay that by putting in performances on the pitch.”

Holland, who started his career with Everton Academy, also has 26 youth caps for England, ranging from Under-16’s to Under-19’s.

U’s boss Karl Robinson has previously stated that he wanted another winger, and the arrival of Holland will certainly boost the clubs promotion hopes.
