Oxford United are set to resume their League One campaign next month following over three months without any football.

After weeks of delays, the EFL finally decided to curtail the season and complete the final table on an unweighted points per game (PPG) system. As a result, the U’s finished fourth in League One – their highest finish this millennium, and will face Portsmouth in the playoffs.

During the lockdown, we have spoken to a key Oxford supporter. Jack Brooks, a bowler for Somerset County Cricket Club and voice on the Official Oxford United Podcast, has been following his hometown club since he was a young lad, and we have asked him some questions about the club he supports.

When did you start supporting the U’s?

I started following in about 1993/94.

What was your first Oxford United match?

I went to Manor to see Oxford play three times in the 1994/95 season. I think Birmingham City was the first. 1-1 draw.

What was your last Oxford match?

The 7-0 loss to Wigan over Christmas in the season before last, I was due to go to the Bristol Rovers game just before lockdown.

Favourite ever manager?

Jim Smith

Least favourite ever manager?

Pep Clotet

Favourite player (of all time)?

Joey Beauchamp/Matt Elliott/Mateo Corbo

Favourite current player?

Cameron Brannagan

Best memory?

Middlesbrough away in the FA Cup fifth round. When we equalised, I’ve never known a feeling like it at a football match.

Worst memory?

Relegation to non-league in 2006 hurt.

Thoughts on the current backroom? Chairman, board and staff.

We look organised and strong off the field. Hopefully a long term plan and clever investment, and full faith in the board and chairman.

Thoughts on Karl Robinson?

KR is impressive. He has built the right culture for long term & really nice chap who cares for players supporters and the club. Hope he stays a while!

Thoughts on the current squad?

Current squad is best we’ve had for a very long time, add a bit of class and we’ll be a capable Championship team.

Where did you expect the U’s to finish the start of the season?

I was expecting us to finish top six at very least.

Before the season was suspended, do you think we would have achieved promotion?

Without a doubt. We would have been promoted, maybe even automatic.
