Ipswich Postponed – Time For the U’s to Enjoy Deserved Break

|

Oxford United’s League One meeting at home to league leaders Ipswich Town has been postponed.

The visitors have made the decision after four of their players received international call-ups, and the EFL allow postponement if three or more are absent.

As a result, Karl Robinson’s side will go three weeks between their most recent league game, a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, and their next, a trip to Southend United on November 23.

The U’s face Hayes and Yeading United this Sunday in the first round of the FA Cup, before taking part in the Football League Trophy.

But the postponement could be a good thing for the U’s. Robinson currently has eight players out injured, although Josh Ruffels, Chris Cadden and Rob Hall could return this weekend.

And after the draw at Pompey, a few players, including Tariqe Fosu and Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, looked and felt fatigued as the side extended their unbeaten run to twelve games.

If the U’s can get through their next two games unscathed, with the additional bonus of being able to play some youngsters in the two fixtures also, the club can head into the meeting at Southend feeling rested and raring to go again.
