Oxford United are one of several League One clubs interested in Ipswich midfielder, Idris El Mizouni, according to Stuart Watson of the East Anglian Daily Times.

Watson claims the Tractor Boys have “knocked back low six-figure transfer bids” amid interest from Barnsley, Wycombe and Bolton.

The 23-year-old has spent the last 18 months on loan at Leyton Orient – first helping the O’s secure promotion from League Two while becoming an integral part of the team this season.

The report adds that Ipswich would be looking to sell the Tunisian should his valuation he met. He is out of contract in the summer but Kieran McKenna has an option to extend by a further 12 months should the club decide to do so.

The defensive midfielder came through the ranks at Portman Road but game time has been limited, with spells away from the club with Cambridge, Grimsby and now Orient.

It’s an area of the pitch that Oxford are certainly looking at. Ever since the long term injury to Alex Gorrin, the U’s have struggled to find a defensive midfielder. Of course, the like of Marcus McGuane and Cameron Brannagan have done well in the position but their strengths are further up the pitch, while Josh McEachran, who was signed for the role, has also put in some strong displays.

However, with El Mizouni being just 23-years-old, the signing would not just be for now but also for the future.
