League One Preview: Oxford United v Ipswich Town – Team News, Form and Prediction

Oxford United will look to continue their promotion charge when they welcome fellow promotion hopefuls Ipswich at Grenoble Road.

Karl Robinson’s side edged past Shrewsbury last time out and have won five from their last six games.

As for Ipswich, they played out a goalless draw with another promotion hopeful, Portsmouth. The result leaves the Tractor Boys eight points behind Oxford but they are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run, which comprises of five wins and four draws. During that run, Ipswich have conceded just one goal, keeping eight clean sheets in the process.

The U’s had nine players absent through injury or illness against the Shrews but Billy Bodin made a timely return and could feature this weekend.

Ipswich are without Lee Evans and Kyle Edwards while George Edmundson is a doubt for the game. However, the Tractor Boys did welcome back Sam Morsy for their match against Pompey.

Macauley Bonne is the club’s top scorer this season with 12 while former Oxford loanee Wes Burns has 11. Conor Chaplin has also chipped in with nine goals while Kayden Jackson and former U’s target James Norwood have added ten between them.

With the U’s boasting the third-best home record in the division, they will be hopeful that Grenoble Road remains fortress this weekend. However, Ipswich have a respectable away record in League One this season, picking up 25 points on their travels.

Since Ipswich have been in League One, Oxford are unbeaten in the five meetings between the two sides. However, four of those encounters, including the two previous home games, have ended goalless, with the U’s winning 1-0 in the other match.
