League One Preview: Oxford United v Rotherham United – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United will be looking to make it back to back to back league wins when they welcome league leaders Rotherham.

The U’s saw off bogey team Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night despite missing 13 first-team players through covid and injuries.

As for Rotherham, they won 2-0 at Ipswich Town, extending their unbeaten run to 15 in all competitions. During that run, the Millers have scored five against Sunderland and four against Portsmouth in big wins.

Oxford are without Jack Stevens, Sam Winnall, Ryan Williams and Alex Rodriguez Gorrin through injury, while John Mousinho, Jordan Thorniley, Elliott Moore, Mark Sykes, Simon Eastwood, Matty Taylor and Anthony Forde are all absent with covid.

Rotherham have no fresh injury concerns but Ollie Rathbone and Joe Mattock are both doubtful. The Millers are also deadly in front of goal and have scored more than any other side in the division. Michael Smith has scored 12, Freddie Ladapo eight and Will Grigg six. Central midfielder Ben Wiles also has six goals this season while Dan Barlaser and Mickel Miller have also added six assists each.

Not only do the Millers have the best offence in the league but they also have the tightest defence, conceding just 13 league goals along with keeping 14 clean sheets in all competitions.

Rotherham won this fixture in the last meeting between the two sides but the U’s won the reverse in South Yorkshire. The Millers haven’t lost at Grenoble Road in their last three visits with their most recent loss in 2012.

Predicted line-up: Connal Trueman, Steve Seddon, Luke McNally, Sam Long, Jamie Hanson, Herbie Kane, Cameron Brannagan, Marcus McGuane, Nathan Holland, James Henry, Gavin Whyte.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Rotherham United
