Sonny Perkins has been recalled from his loan spell at Oxford United by his parent club, Leeds.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined on a season-long loan in August, has managed just six appearances in all competitions and been on the field for just five minutes of league football.

He played two minutes in a defeat against Port Vale, one minute in a win over Fleetwood and two minutes in Des Buckingham’s first game in charge at Cheltenham.

Perkins netted once – the opener in a 5-0 Football League Trophy game against Chelsea U21s.

The fact that he hasn’t been able to get into many squads, let alone line-ups, even with Mark Harris struggling for goals and Gatlin O’Donkor struggling for minutes just shows how little he was thought of, by both Buckingham and his previous manager, Liam Manning.

It also frees up a loan spot for a potential new arrival as the U’s look to bolster their squad, particularly in the attacking areas, during the January transfer window.
