Leeds United Target Oxford Midfielder

Championship side Leeds United are looking at signing Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan, as reports by the Football Insider would suggest.

The 23-year-old has had a superb season for the U’s, scoring seven goals and providing five assists from 34 appearances despite missing parts of the campaign with injury.

But, the Championship high flyers sent scouts to watch the midfielder as Oxford ran out 3-0 winners against Accrington Stanley last night, and have been monitoring the former Liverpool man closely for a number of months.

Brannagan, who left the Premier League leaders in after 17 years at the club, has been an integral part of Karl Robinson’s squad since joining the U’s in January 2018.

The midfielder has made just shy of 100 appearances for the club, where he has scored 13 goals in all competitions.

His contract expires in the summer of 2021, but as he enters his final year under contract at Oxford, it could be a stick or twist move for both the player and the club.

For many fans, it is a case of when, not if, Brannagan will leave. The midfielder, who Vital Oxford nominated in the Oxford United Team of the Decade, clearly has the talent to play at a higher level.

If Oxford fail to achieve promotion this season, the U’s may decide to cash in on the 23-year-old, despite other key players such as Rob Dickie also linked with moves away from Grenoble Road.
