Notts County manager Luke Williams is in “advanced talks” to replace Liam Manning at Oxford United, according to Football Insider.

The report claims a deal is close to being agreed upon following new discussions in the last 24 hours.

Williams helped the Magpies to secure promotion back into the Football League last summer via the playoffs after an enthralling battle for the title with Wrexham, while his side currently sit fifth in League Two after 17 matches.

The 42-year-old has also worked as manager at Bristol City U23s before taking on an assistant role under Russell Martin at both MK Dons and Swansea.

There have been several names being linked with the Oxford job but it appears Williams is close to being the chosen successor.

Reports also claim that Oxford-born Des Buckingham is another choice for the board, who hope to make their decision before their next league game at Cheltenham at the end of the month.

Manning departed the club after just eight months in charge but helped the U’s avoid relegation last season before leading them to second in League One with ten wins from their opening 15 games.
