Midfield Duo Ruled out for Sunderland Game

Oxford United midfield duo Liam Kelly and Jamie Hanson have both been ruled out for this Saturday’s match against Sunderland.

Kelly, who picked up what was first thought to be hamstring injury during the U’s 2-2 draw at Burton Albion on Tuesday night, appears to have pinched a nerve which is reassuring news for the club.

U’s boss Karl Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “The recovery rate has been very rapid, so we’re very happy with that.

“It’s not a tear, it’s just a pinch in certain nerves where it does feel like a tear. If it is there’s no muscle damage whatsoever.

“It looks like it will be a seven to ten-day injury, which is good news.”

But with Alex Rodriguez Gorrin suspended for the next two games after picking up his tenth booking of the season at the Brewers, Hanson was a possible replacement for the Spaniard. However, he has now picked up an infection.

Robinson added: “Jamie Hanson has an infection, so he’s off and seeing a doctor.

“It’s a reaction to something, we’re not 100 per cent sure. It’s a skin thing, nothing bad.”
