Oxford Reject Blackpool Bid for Karl Robinson

Oxford United have rejected an offer for manager Karl Robinson from League One rivals Blackpool, BBC Sport have confirmed.

The news broke just an hour before kick-off as the U’s saw off Accrington Stanley 3-0 to record a third successive win, moving them to within one point off the playoffs.

But Robinson, who signed a new deal with the U’s in August, told BBC Radio Oxford that he has “not got a clue” about the approach made for him.

After his side’s victory, he said: “Nobody at the football club has spoken to me about anything.

“I think I should have been told if we’ve had a phone call, but in some ways you’ve also got to respect the fact that when you look at that we had a game tonight, maybe that’s the case.

“We have a good relationship at the football club and we all work hard together, and we’re all a very close unit, I just think that I’ll get more clarity tonight and tomorrow morning.

“I’ll have to make a phone call, but it’s four o’clock in the morning in Thailand so it might be a bit difficult to get hold of him, ” (U’s Chairman, Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth.)

The 39-year-old, who joined the club in March 2018, is aware that his players and himself will be in the spotlight after a decent season on the field, which includes a promotion push, an FA Cup run which ended at the fourth round after a replay against Newcastle United and a Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against holders Manchester City.

He added: “It means my players are doing well. This team, if we stick together and we build on it and we spend money on it, it can achieve great things.

“But it has to have that second aspect to it to be successful because if we don’t we’re going to be like the rest and that’s me being brutally honest.

“But I’m hearing that this football club is here to be successful, and they’re the conversations that I have on a consistent basis.”

After taking over in March, Robinson secured the clubs League One status after dropping into a relegation battle.

Last season, however, the U’s spent most of the campaign in the bottom for but finished the campaign in 12th after a strong end to the season.
