Oxford United Keeping Tabs on St Patrick’s Athletic Defender Luke McNally

St Patrick’s Athletic defender Luke McNally has emerged as a potential transfer target for Oxford United, reports SunSport.

The 21-year-old centre back has attracted plenty of interest from the English Football League, with Lincoln City and Ipswich Town also keeping an eye on the defender.

According to the report, the U’s are cautious about whether or not they can or should spend out on a player when the Premier League have recently boosted finances in the lower leagues with a bailout.

The U’s find themselves in a fairly strong position financially, despite the decrease in incomings over the past year or so.

McNally played every minute for St Pat’s last season following a successful loan spell at Drogheda United. This season, the defender has scored once from 18 outings for the League of Ireland Premier Division side.

If Oxford do sign the youngster, he will become the U’s first signing of the January transfer window.
