Oxford United are one of several clubs looking to sign Chelsea youngster, Xavier Simons, according to the Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard.

The 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Hull, has attracted interest from the U’s, Charlton, Leyton Orient and Salford City.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play at right-back, has managed just two competitive appearances and 80 minutes for the Tigers this season and is eager for regular game time.

Kinsella claims that Chelsea are willing to sell Simons this month rather than see a return to the club.

He has made 61 appearances across Chelsea’s youth setup, scoring three times and providing six assists.

It would be a good move for the U’s who are without Alex Rodriguez Gorrin as a holding midfielder, despite the improved performances from Marcus McGuane in the role.

So far, Oxford have seen the arrival of defenders Stephan Negru, Brandon Fleming and Teddy Mfuni.
