Oxford United’s winning run continued on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury.

For the second game running, all three goals came from defenders, with Fin Stevens, Ciaron Brown and Greg Leigh all on target.

Here are three talking points from the game:

Line-Up and Formation

After changing his formation for the recent win over Stevenage, there was plenty of debate on how Liam Manning would set his team up.

However, the head coach stuck with the same formation of a back three and the same personnel bar one change, with Mark Harris coming back from his suspension to start up top.

Three More Goals

The U’s have now won four games on the bounce and Manning’s side have scored three goals in all of those matches.

Against the Shrews, Fin Stevens netted his first U’s goal, finishing from a Greg Leigh cross before Ciaron Brown bundled home a second which came moments after the visitors saw a player dismissed.

Leigh, who netted a brace against Stevenage, then added a sensational third late on to round off another superb display.

Clean Sheet

Of those four successive wins, the U’s have now kept three clean sheets. This was the first with the new back-three formation.

As said during a previous win against Fleetwood, the clean sheet will breed confidence, not only for the defenders, but also for the entire team.

Oxford have now kept four clean sheets from ten league games, with three coming in the last four.
