Preview: League One – Oxford United v Plymouth Argyle

|

Oxford United welcome league leaders Plymouth Argyle to Grenoble Road on Saturday in what is a first league game in two weeks for the U’s.

Karl Robinson’s side had the weekend off after their trip to Sunderland was postponed due to international call-ups. However, the U’s had won their previous two games against Accrington and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

As for Plymouth, they moved top of League One with a 2-1 victory at home to Burton. The Pilgrims have lost just once from their opening 12 league games (a 2-0 loss at Rotherham on the opening day of the season) and have recorded six wins.

Oxford will be back to full strength having had six players miss out through injury, illness and covid. Marcus McGuane and Gavin Whyte missed the trip to Hillsborough after testing positive but are now available to play while Billy Bodin and Sam Winnall also missed out through illness. James Hanson, who has been absent since July with a shoulder injury, and Herbie Kane could also return.

For Plymouth, Luke Jephcott and Brandan Galloway will return from international duty but Niall Ennis and James Bolton are out through injury. Jephcott has found the net five times this season but is still some way off top scorer Ryan Hardie, who has netted ten times.

Oxford have a good record against Plymouth and won both fixtures last season. In fact, the U’s have lost just twice from the last 12 meetings between the two clubs.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Steve Seddon, Jordan Thorniley, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Herbie Kane, Nathan Holland, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Plymouth Argyle
