Preview: League One – Oxford United vs Fleetwood Town

|

Oxford United welcome Fleetwood on Saturday with the U’s unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions and fresh off the back of seven successive wins.

The U’s recorded their seventh win in style on Tuesday night with a stoppage-time winner in a seven-goal thriller against Rochdale.

Managerless Fleetwood were also in action during the week as the Cod Army played out a goalless draw at home to Northampton. It was their second successive stalemate after the same scoreline against Wigan last weekend. As a result, Fleetwood are winless in their last eight games.

Fleetwood are three points and three places below Oxford in 14th in the table. However, only five teams have conceded fewer than their 22 goals in League One this season.

Marcus McGuane has been ruled out for up to six weeks after picking up a thigh injury against Bristol Rovers. Jordan Obita has left the club to join Wycombe Wanderers but the U’s have signed 21-year-old central defender Luke McNally from St Patrick’s Athletic.

Midfielder Callum Camps has recorded ten goals this season while Harvey Saunders has added eight. Paddy Madden and Ched Evans have both added seven goals and four assists each but the latter has joined Preston North End on loan.

Fleetwood have never lost against the U’s and won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this season. From 12 meetings between the two sides, the Cod Army have recorded ten wins. Oxford’s two draws both came on the road, meaning they have lost all five home meetings.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Josh Ruffels, Rob Atkinson, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Liam Kelly, Mide Shodpio, James Henry, Matty Taylor.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-0 Fleetwood Town
