Oxford United will be looking to make it five wins in a row when the U’s welcome Port Vale to Grenoble Road.

Liam Manning’s side have picked up wins against Carlisle, Derby, Barnsley and Charlton to sit at the top of the table after the opening five league matches.

Vale are sitting in sixth, two points behind the U’s, despite a 7-0 defeat against Barnsley on the opening day of the season. Andy Crosby’s side have three wins and a draw since the loss at Oakwell, and progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a win on penalties against Crewe on Tuesday night.

Oxford are without Jordan Thorniley and Marcus Browne through injury but Sam Long could be available despite missing the recent win against the Addicks.

For Port Vale, Ellis Harrison is a doubt but Tom Conlon remains sidelined through injury.

Despite a poor season for the U’s last term, they won this fixture 4-0 and drew in the reverse match. Vale have one win from the last six meetings, with that coming in an FA Cup clash. The Valiants have visited Grenoble Road on five occasions with Oxford winning all five games.

Predicted line-up: James Beadle, Ciaron Brown, Stephan Negru, Elliott Moore, Fin Stevens, Marcus McGuane, Cameron Brannagan, Ruben Rodrigues, Billy Bodin, Tyler Goodrham, Mark Harris.

Prediction: Oxford United 2-0 Port Vale
