Oxford United have agreed a £1.6 million deal with Burnley for defender Luke McNally, according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old, who has two years remaining on his current deal at Grenoble Road, has attracted plenty of interest following a breakthrough season in the Football League.

This season, the centre-back scored four times from 35 appearances and become a key part of Karl Robinson’s side following the departure of Jordan Thorniley in January.

It was reported last week that “three bids” had been turned down by the U’s but it appears that the Clarets have finally met the valuation of the League One side.

Should McNally depart for that fee, it would be the same figure as Oxford sold Rob Atkinson to Bristol City last summer.

It would also leave Robinson with Elliott Moore and 36-year-old John Mousinho as the club’s only recognised centre-backs.

New manager Vincent Kompany is searching for defensive reinforcements following the departures of long-serving partners James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.

Football Insider also claims that Arsenal have accepted a £2 million bid for Arsenal centre-half Daniel Ballard, who spent this season on loan at Millwall.
