Oxford United are looking to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Jamie Cumming as a replacement for James Beadle, according to Alan Nixon.

Beadle was recalled from his season-long loan on Monday before joining Championship club, Sheffield Wednesday.

It leaves Des Buckingham with veteran Simon Eastwood and the relatively untested Ed McGinty, but the U’s are still looking for a new number one.

The 24-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is yet to make a senior Chelsea appearance but has spent time on loan at Stevenage, Gillingham and Liam Manning’s MK Dons, where he developed his game style in playing out from the back.

He returned to the Dons last season and won the club’s Player of the Year despite suffering relegation to League Two.

Nixon claims Oxford are looking to loan the goalkeeper but they could sign him on a permanent basis in the summer when his Stamford Bridge contract expires.
