Oxford United striker Gatlin O’Donkor has signed a new “long-term” deal with the club.

The 18-year-old, who became the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his debut in the Football League Trophy in 2020, has scored twice from 35 League One appearances. However, 26 of those outings have come as a substitute.

His brace of goals both came in home fixtures in a 1-1 draw against Fleetwood and 3-1 victory over Charlton.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Liam Manning said: “Gatlin has all the physical attributes you need and has a very bright future.

“He knows there are things he needs to work on if he is to fulfill the huge potential he has, and a lot of that comes from within, but at the same time we will give him every opportunity to keep developing and be part of what we are building this season and in the years to come.”

O’Donkor added: “It’s a nice feeling knowing that the gaffer and the club have you in their plans.

“I am enjoying my football this season and the team is going really well so it was a really easy decision to sign a longer contract.

“The club is ambitious and so am I. All I can do now is work hard and try to repay the faith they have shown in me”
