“We’re close to getting one done, we’ve just got to wait for somebody else in another part of the world to get their window to reopen.”

Those were the words of U’s boss Karl Robinson in Wednesday morning’s Oxford Mail, speaking of the club’s defensive situation following Luke McNally’s departure to Burnley on Tuesday.

It has caused quite a stir about who Robinson could be eluding to, with the most obvious candidate being Philadelphia Union defender, Stuart Findlay.

We have previously reported on links with the Scottish international, going as far back as 2019 when the 26-year-old was playing for Kilmarnock.

However, at the time, Robinson revealed that the club had pulled out of a move after the Scottish club wanted more than Oxford were willing to pay and signed Elliott Moore from Leicester City instead.

Eventually, Findlay made the move to the MLS, which was a surprise given his young age. Even during his time in the States, Oxford have remained interested in the defender.

Out of contract this summer, with the transfer window opening in July, the U’s could look to make a third attempt to sign the defender.

The 26-year-old, who has managed just 11 appearances in the MLS, can play anywhere along the back four and would give Robinson plenty of options ahead of the new campaign.

The manager is clearly a fan of the defender but given his lack of game time in the States, would it be a wise move for the U’s?
