Burnley Join Race for Oxford Midfielder

|

Premier League side Burnley have joined the race to sign Oxford United midfielder, Cameron Brannagan, as reported by the Football Insider.

The 23-year-old, who had already been linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer, has now also been targeted by the top-flight club.

Negotiations are yet to begin with both clubs still assessing the midfielder, but they remain aware that the U’s may need to cash in on their prized asset due to the current financial crisis in football.

Oxford will be holding out for a fee of £5 million – £2 million more than the current record sale of Kemar Roofe to Leeds in 2016 – and that money could be used to reinvest in the squad ahead of next season.

That said, despite missing parts of the season with an injury, Brannagan has once again been a key player for the U’s. The 23-year-old, who has now made over 100 appearances for the club, has scored seven and assisted six from 36 appearances this season.

As a result, the former Liverpool man is now one of the most sought after midfielders in the Football League, and it’s surely now just a matter of time before he ends up in a higher division.

Burnley and Leeds have also been linked with U’s defender Rob Dickie. Like Brannagan, the 24-year-old has had a sensational career since joining the club and it’s only a matter of time before he is also plying his trade in a higher division.
