Carabao Cup Preview: Oxford United v Swansea City – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Following their league win over Cambridge last time out, Oxford United turn their attention to the Carabao Cup when Swansea visit Grenoble Road.

Tyler Goodrham netted a 93rd-minute winner on his Football League debut on Saturday and could be handed start against the Swans as a result.

As for Russell Martin’s side, they are still looking for a first win of the season following a 1-1 draw at Rotherham and 3-0 defeat at home against Blackburn last time out.

Both teams have found goals hard to come by since the beginning of the new campaign with just one scored each.

The Swans have seen a few new, and old, faces join the club in the summer. Defender Harry Darling was the marquee signing after a brilliant campaign for MK Dons and he scored the goal at Rotherham, while veteran midfielder Joe Allan has returned to his hometown club.

Oxford are still without Sam Baldock and Yanic Wildschut through injury, while Allen is a doubt for the visitors.

The teams last met six years ago when Michael Appleton’s League Two Oxford knocked then Premier League side Swansea out of the FA Cup with an emphatic 3-2 victory. That was the first meeting since 2005 when the Swans did the league double over the U’s. However, Oxford have won six of the last seven home meetings against the Welsh club.

Predicted line-up: Jack Stevens, Ciaron Brown, Stuart Findlay, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Lewis Bate, Marcus Browne, Jodi Jones, Tyler Goodrham.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Swansea City
