Oxford United are one of three Football League clubs considering a move for former Brentford goalkeeper, Nathan Shepperd, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The 23-year-old, who is also being looked at by Wycombe and Salford, is without a club after leaving Dundalk at the start of the month.

He spent two years with the League of Ireland Premier Division club, where he turned out 78 times. He was also named Player of the Season in his debut campaign.

Prior to that, the former Swansea academy player and Wales U21 international spent three years with the Brentford B team.

Following the arrival of Jamie Cumming on loan and the departure of Ed McGinty (also on loan), another goalkeeping addition would have looked unlikely for Des Buckingham’s side.

However, with Cumming picking up an injury in Oxford’s 2-2 draw against Portsmouth, and the club seemingly reluctant to recall McGinty having seen him only just depart, the U’s have had to identify another shot-stopper.

Should the move go through, it is unclear who would be number one in Cumming’s absence. Veteran Simon Eastwood is available but Sheppard has come off the back of some impressive campaigns on the other side of the Irish Sea.
