Oxford United’s pursuit of the versatile Hearts player Sean Clare appears to have moved up a notch after the 23-year-old reportedly agreed on terms ahead of a switch.

It was revealed earlier today that the former Sheffield Wednesday man was a transfer target for Karl Robinson, but only looked likely if a move for former Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell fell through.

But now, it appears the U’s have persisted with the transfer for the 23-year-old, with a six-figure fee reported as the transfer fee ahead of a move back to England.

Robinson had previously shown interest in the midfielder, who can also cover at right-back when he left Wednesday in 2018. However, he decided to join the Scottish Premiership side, who suffered relegation last season.

Clare scored four goals from 26 Scottish Premiership games last season, and added two goals from three games in the SFA Cup. His versatility would make him a good summer signing for the U’s.
