Oxford United are ready to turn their attention to Hearts’ versatile player, Sean Clare, as reported by the Daily Record.

The 23-year-old, who can play as a central midfielder and a right-back, will become Karl Robinson’s next target, but only if he fails to land former Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell.

O’Donnell is out of contract, having left Killie in the summer, but the report suggests that the U’s are will to pay a six-figure fee for Clare should a move for O’Donnell fail to materialise.

It is believed that Robinson wanted to sign Clare after he left Sheffield Wednesday in 2018, but the versatile player moved to Hearts after the Owls accepted an offer.

But as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Clare and a number of his teammates have taken pay cuts to help the club following their relegation from the SPL.

As a result, the U’s are poised to make their move, with Hearts looking desperate for the income.

Clare scored four goals from 26 SPL games last season, and added two goals from three games in the SFA Cup.
