Oxford United manager Karl Robinson labelled his side as ‘brilliant’ as the U’s recorded their first home win over Bristol Rovers in ten years.

The 2-0 victory was the U’s sixth win in succession – a feat achieved for the first time since 1994. It also extended their unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions.

It was a former Rovers striker that inflicted the damage as Matty Taylor scored a brace against his old club.

Although the U’s started slowly, given the fact their last league game was three weeks ago in a 5-1 victory at Burton Albion, Robinson was pleased with the performance.

Speaking after the game, he said: “I thought in the first eight minutes they came out at 100 miles per hour and made it difficult for us.

“After that, I thought we were brilliant. I thought we were a cut above in our performance levels.

“For the rest of the first half, we were a yard away from getting that extra goal and going in a little more comfortably.

“It was very pleasing and I thought we saw the game out well.”

The U’s lost Marcus McGuane through injury just fifteen minutes into the game. Although it allowed Cameron Brannagan 75 minutes on the pitch, the U’s boss was disappointed to see the on-loan Nottingham Forest man leave the field.

He added: “He’s walking now, so when he gets a scan we’ll know a little bit more.

“It’s his thigh, he felt it as he kicked the ball. It’s a big loss to us but the players dealt with that well.”

The win lifts Oxford to 11th in League One. The U’s travel to Rochdale on Tuesday night before welcoming Fleetwood Town to Grenoble Road.
