International Call Up For U’s Midfielder

|

Oxford United midfielder Shandon Baptiste has been called up to the Grenada squad for four games in October and November.

The 21-year-old, who has made three appearances for the U’s this season, will miss two Oxford games, but U’s boss Karl Robinson would be entitled to postpone the matches at home to Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town if he felt he needed to.

Baptiste, who has scored once from three appearances for the national side, will face French Guiana in October and St Kitts and Nevis one month later.

It could be a blow for Oxford to lose Baptiste for two crucial League One games, but the counter to that is that it would give the midfielder some valuable game time after missing most of last season through injury.

The youngster exploded on the scene last season, and although injuries hampered his progress and limited first-team opportunities, he remains highly thought of by supporters at the Kassam Stadium.
