According to The News’ chief sports writer, Neil Allen, Portsmouth look set to announce Oxford United defender John Mousinho as their new manager.

The south coast club are without a head coach after relieving Danny Cowley from the role earlier this month.

Mousinho is yet to venture into management but has been part of Karl Robinson’s backroom staff, alongside his role as a player and his position as the chair of the Professional Football Association.

The 36-year-old, who joined the U’s in 2017, has made 150 appearances for the club, including eight this season.

He is out of contract in the summer but appears to be on the move, according to Allen.

In October, he told BBC Radio Oxford’s Five Minute Fans Forum that although he had yet to receive any managerial job offers, he was prepared to take on a vacancy.

He said: “I don’t think I’m ever going to be fully ready, I don’t think anyone ever is going into any job.

“I’ve done as much preparation as I can, and I speak to the manager quite often about this.

“I’ve been working closely with the manager here, which is brilliant and I feel very lucky to be able to do that.

“I’m not entirely sure on timescales, and when I would ever properly feel ready but
