Oxford United have boosted their defensive options with the arrival of Dutch right-back, Djavan Anderson from Lazio.

The 27-year-old, who has signed a one-year deal, moved to the Serie A side in 2018 but has managed just ten appearances for the club.

The right-back, who can also play in the right of midfield, has spent time on loan in Serie B and his homeland in the past three seasons.

Last week, U’s boss Karl Robinson told BBC Radio Oxford that he was hopeful a right-back from another country would be joining the club.

The U’s have seen versatile players Anthony Forde, Ryan Williams and Mark Sykes all depart in the summer, leaving Sam Long as the club’s only recognised senior right-back.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Robinson said: “It’s an exciting signing – I can’t imagine Oxford have signed too many players who were on the bench for Lazio the night before!

“He is very fast, he covers us as a wing-back, in midfield or as a winger which gives us flexibility and we look forward to working with him.”

Anderson added: “I hope that (the paperwork) goes through as quickly as possible. I haven’t played as many games as I wanted to in the last few years and I just want to get started now.

“The manager spoke with such passion about Oxford and the plans for the club and I know the style he likes to play which I think will suit how I like to play the game.”
