League One Preview: Bolton Wanderers v Oxford United – Team News, Form and Prediction

|

Oxford United face another tough away day when they visit Bolton in League One on Saturday.

The U’s picked up a point on the road against Portsmouth on Tuesday night, a result which followed defeat at home against Peterborough.

As for Bolton, they’re unbeaten in four games in all competitions following a 2-1 win at home against Burton.

Oxford are without the suspended duo of Matty Taylor and Billy Bodin, with the latter picking up two bookings at Fratton Park. Karl Robinson will also watch from the sidelines. Lewis Bate returned to the bench from injury but didn’t feature, while the usual suspects of Sam Baldock and Josh Murphy are still sidelined.

Bolton have no fresh injury concerns with Eoin Toal being the only absentee.

Kyle Joseph took his tally to six this season with a great strike at Portsmouth and is one behind top scorer Cameron Brannagan on seven.

Bolton’s top scorer has less than the Oxford duo with Dion Charles on five. However, Jón Dadi Bödvarsson and Kieran Sadlier have also added four each and there are two more players on three.

Despite that, Wanderers have found goals hard to come by, having scored just 18 times in League One, which is the lowest of any of the top eight teams. However, they boast the best defence, conceding just 11 and keeping seven clean sheets.

The U’s have lost three of the last four league meetings against Bolton including a 2-1 defeat in this fixture last season. However, their last win over Wanderers also came on the road, winning 2-0 in 2016. That victory was the only one in the last 11, stretching back to 1993.

Predicted line-up: Simon Eastwood, Ciaron Brown, Stuart Findlay, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, Cameron Brannagan, Marcus McGuane, Marcus Browne, Kyle Joseph, Gatlin O’Donkor.

Prediction: Bolton Wanderers 0-0 Oxford United
